History
OUT@UTM was founded in October of 2002 as the first LGBTQ group on campus at UTM, promoting positive space and equality. We acted as a support group, a social circle, and an outlet for fun; we introduced member meetings, active dialogues, tri-campus parties, and drag pubs that allowed students to explore and express themselves freely.
Since 2002, OUT@UTM’s history has been anything but predictable. We’ve gained an office, lost an office, worked out of a cardboard condom box in S.E.C. (no joke), launched poster campaigns, and had our posters removed from the student centre. We’ve since reclaimed our office, increased our membership, and improved our constitution - we are stronger now than than we’ve ever been.

Membership
The core of OUT@UTM is its members - we’re devoted to our community. While in the past we’ve focused on LGBTQ students, we are reaching out to anyone who wants to get to know us. We strive to be as welcoming to our straight members as we are to our LGBTQ members, to understand what each individual needs from us, and give them exactly that. No matter who you are, no matter what you’re into, no matter what’s on your mind, you can always find a friend in OUT@UTM.

What's Coming
In the 2009-2010 school year, we plan to change the way the school sees us. We are working with UTMSU to improve community relations and understanding, working with the downtown campus to improve inter-campus events, and will be holding a referendum for equity organization status in the spring. We’re rebranding to reflect the energy and creativity of our members, and plan to launch poster campaigns to raise awareness about issues, hype our events, and bring our community closer together.

This school year will be a turning point in the history of our club, and we want you to join us in this landmark year. Visit our office, contact us via email or on Facebook or Twitter, or come out to one of our many events. We hope to see you around as we enter our seventh year; it’s gonna be quite a ride.
